Wastewater Operator

The Operator is responsible for operating or learning to operate machinery, pumps, and related equipment in water or wastewater treatment facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Operates valves, pumps, motors, belt presses, disinfection equipment, vehicles and various other related equipment and machinery
• Provides routine testing, monitoring, and maintenance of production wells
• Performs treatment process and maintenance of treatment facility equipment to assure proper operations
• Conducts routine sampling and field testing of water and/or wastewater
• Documents plant performance, maintenance and records daily flows & chemical usage • Engages in the emergency repair and maintenance of treatment equipment, pumps, motors, sensing devices, instrumentation, and electrical equipment.
• Ensures that facilities are secure
• Responds to call outs and after hours emergencies and provides customer service functions when necessary
• May clean and maintain treatment plant grounds when necessary
• Understands and adheres to all company health and safety procedures as they relate to essential job functions

QUALIFICATIONS
• Display a willingness, aptitude and self-discipline to study the required material and meet all prerequisites to obtain water or wastewater certification.
• Knowledge of process control techniques, maintenance procedures and safe practices.
• The ability to successfully perform routine on-site maintenance and emergency repairs of treatment equipment is essential
• Knowledge of regulatory rules is essential
• Previous water or wastewater treatment experience is desirable
• Completion of water or wastewater correspondence courses is very desirable
• Willing to work all shifts including: weekends, holidays, evenings, and 24-hour emergency on call
• Prevailing Wage Rates Applicable

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• High school diploma or equivalent and 0-1 years related experience

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
• Valid driver’s license
• NY Grade 2A Waterlicense
• NY Grade 2 Wastewater license

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Must be able to frequently lift 50 pounds and able to load, unload, and move large equipment and tools
• Continuous walking, stair climbing, and lifting
• Must be able to access confined spaces

Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Mechanic / Operator

O’BRIEN & GERE OPERATIONS, is seeking one qualified Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Mechanic / Operator in Buffalo, NY. The position requires one part time person to support an area-sampling project in the Buffalo region for 52 weeks, and up to 12 hrs per week, (2 hours per day for 5 days) but more hours may be available in the future. This person will be responsible to support the following activities: · Monitor weekly sampling equipment. · Perform quarterly sampling. Upon completion of sampling, package for shipment to an area laboratory.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: · Must be able to transport self around the facility. · Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds. · Must be able to work in all types of weather.

Basic Qualifications: · Work independently · 2 or more years of experience in operations of a wastewater treatment plant. · Field sampling skills · Possess a valid NYS vehicle-operating license. · Ability to perform general electro/mechanical repairs on process equipment · Knowledgeable in the principles and practices of wastewater treatment plant operations; operating principles of valves, pumps, motors; blowers; flow measurement devices; principles and methods of wastewater analyses. Preferred Qualifications: Self-starting individual, with solid mechanical aptitude in support of groundwater treatment equipment. Groundwater and Wastewater Operators /Mechanics

O’BRIEN & GERE OPERATIONS, LLC, is seeking qualified, Groundwater and Wastewater Operators /Mechanics for full-time/part-time work in our Fort Edwards Balston Spa, and Liberty, NY locations. These positions require a minimum of 20 hours per week on-site support 5 day per week, plus the ability to respond to alarms within 1 hour. There is a potential for full-time work at all the facilities.

This position will be responsible for the following, but not limited to: · Operates, performs routine repairs, and maintains a groundwater treatment plant facility, and small package sanitary wastewater treatment facility. · Performs routine laboratory tests such as temperature, pH, and settable solids. · Perform quarterly well level monitoring and sampling. · Provide caretaker services for treatment plant and associated facilities. · Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with principles. · Supports the preparation of DMRs and haz-waste transport forms

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: · Must be able to transport self over plant facilities during shift. · Must be able to ascend and descend stairs. · Must be able to lift bags weighing up to 50 pounds each from floor. · Must be able to bend frequently to collect samples. · Must be able to work in all types of weather.

Basic Qualifications: · 1 - 4 years experience in operating wastewater treatment plants. · Possess a valid vehicle-operating license. · Ability to perform mechanical repairs, and possess Operator certification at a level required by the State and project (NYSDEC – A certification). · Knowledgeable in the principles and practices of wastewater treatment plant operations; SCADA or instrumentation; operating principles of valves, pumps, motors; principles and methods of wastewater analyses. · A valid Class D NYS vehicle license

Preferred Qualifications: Self-starting individual, who’s well organized, focused and has knowledge of groundwater and wastewater treatment operations; liquid phase carbon adsorption; oil/water separation; sludge management; and strives for a safe work place. Supervisory experience and OSHA 40-hour training is a plus.
