A Message From The President
By Jerry Barron
Once again, the structure of our Board of Directors has changed. And as
in the past, when a member of this Board decides to move on, they take with
them certain special qualities. Special qualities and skills that they bring
to the meeting table, helping to provide a wide range of knowledge and
diversity.
By the time you receive this issue of AquaFacts, Walt and Faith Vosburgh,
have already started out, on a new chapter in their lives, and we all wish
them the best. Walt decided to retire from public life this year, and we know
that he will be missed in his community, and most certainly missed here at
Rural Water.
Because of his quiet and unassuming demeanor, some of you may not know
the amount of work, and the many accomplishments, that Walt has achieved in
the various roles he has served in our organization. Walt has served on our
Board for the last 5 years, and has been a member since 1981.
He has worn many hats for this organization, including, but far from
limited to, official photographer and timekeeper for all our events, on site
building inspector during the construction of the office / training center,
and also served as a substitute wastewater trainer/technician.
Walt's career in the water industry began in 1970 with the Village of
Chatham, where Walt served as water plant operator, then worked for both
water and sewer until 1987 when he became Director of Public Works, until he
retired in 1996. Soon after that, Walt was asked by the Village of Philmont
to work part time as the wastewater operator while they tried to fill this
vacant position. This is what Walt is all about- always pitching in where
needed, helping a neighbor, a friend, a man who took time for others. He
cares deeply about the rural water people, and it show in everything that he
does.
It is with deep regret that NYRWA has accepted Walt's resignation from
the Board of Directors. We here at Rural Water wish Walt and his wife Faith good
health and happiness wherever the road may lead them. The Vosburghs have sold
their home, purchased a 27 ft. camper, and plan to travel the East coast,
visiting family and friends, and then, on to other fascinating destinations
within the USA. Walt has always been a gentleman, a respected friend, and we will all
miss him.
We wish the Vosburghs a bright future and happy retirement.
