A Message From The President
Steve Freeman, President of the Board
By now, most of us are thawed out and thinking about the fair weather projects that lie ahead for 2002, as well as the projects that didn’t get finished in 2001. I’m certain the year 2002 will bring many stumbling blocks for our industry, as did every year before this. I am confident we will get through it and relish the many accomplishments. As I have mentioned before, the New York Rural Water Association will continue to grow and we are proud to announce the addition of a 3rd Circuit Rider to assist with the many technical assistance calls we receive from the water purveyors across New York State. This April, the NYRWA Board of Directors, will join our colleagues from other state associations in Washington, DC, to meet with our Senate and Congressional Representatives to address rural water and wastewater concerns and the importance to continue funding our programs that provide the essential training and technical assistance to you and your communities. If you have benefited from our programs by receiving technical assistance or training, research materials, etc. you could help us in these efforts by writing a letter of appreciation to the Association. We would be proud to take these documents with us to present as proof that the funding provided is benefiting the communities back home in our Representatives district. To those of you who have written letters of appreciation in the past, we thank you.
Finally, before you know it, May will be on our doorsteps and the Rural Water Annual Technical Conference will get underway. This year’s conference will be held in Lake Placid from May 19-22nd. If you’ve been there before, you realize the beauty of this secluded Olympic Village. Look for the schedule of events in this issue, and I assure you, it’s one you don’t want to miss! For those of you who plan to join us, let me stress how important it is to attend the Annual Business Meeting. It’s a great way to become more familiar with our Association, voice your opinions, vote on issues and much more. You must attend to be eligible for the "Meredith H. Thompson Training Award" (that’s a free trip to the National Rural Water Convention to be held in Spokane, Washington this October). It’s a great opportunity to win your way to quality training and fellowship with small system operators from across the nation. Thanks again for your support.
