February 29 is Deadline for Water Fluoridation Grant Applications
The deadline for the New York State Department of Health grants for the Drinking Water Fluoridation Fund is Monday, February 29. “Today, Entergy reported that the level of radioactive tritium-contaminated water that leaked into groundwater at the Indian Point Nuclear facility last week has increased by 80 percent since the initial report. Last week the company reported alarming levels of radioactivity at three monitoring wells, with one well’s radioactivity increasing nearly 65,000 percent.

This year, the Wellsville Water Treatment Plant recognizes its 100th anniversary. A historical report shows that on September 1, 1915, the Village Board purchased the Wellsville Water Company for $75,000.00. In 1916, a slow sand filtration plant was built at a cost of $75,000.00. A new intake dam and chamber was built and a three million gallon open reservoir was included as a part of the slow sand filter.
