EPA & USDA Conduct First Train-the-Trainer Webinar for Small and Rural Water & Wastewater Systems Professionals

On January 14, EPA and the U.S. Department of Agriculture conducted the first of five planned “train-the-trainer” webinars to train small and rural water and wastewater system professionals to assess their system operations and make improvements in priority areas using the agencies’ Rural and Small Systems Guidebook to Sustainable Utility Management and Workshop in a Box tools. More than 320 participants from 47 states participated in the webinar.

The Jefferson Project at Lake George

Work is underway on a high-tech scientific monitoring system that’s designed to protect Lake George’s long-term water quality.  This summer, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, IBM and The Fund for Lake George unveiled plans for a three-year, multimillion-dollar effort to counteract forces that threaten the lake, such as road salt, stormwater runoff and invasive species.

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY AT PA WATER FACILITY–as reported Friday afternoon, October 25, 2013

(U//FOUO) Earlier this week, three males of Middle Eastern decent arrived at a Pennsylvania gated community and tried to gain access by stating they needed to perform maintenance on the cellular phone equipment on the water tower. Community security turned them away when they could not produce any identification to prove that they worked for a telephone service provider.

ISSUES ACCESSING THE OVERFLOW REPORT FORM

There have been reports of issues accessing the updated Overflow Report Form. The issue appears to involve ADOBE 11, web browsers other than Internet Explorer, and mobile phone access to the form. The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation is working on the problems, but in the meantime, here are some ideas to avoid those problems should you need to report an overflow before they are corrected.
1. Don’t download ADOBE 11. Continue using ADOBE 10 until the problem is fixed.
