Troy emergency crews responded to a substantial water main break in Lansingburgh on Monday.

A 30-inch cast iron water main on 124th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues broke. The main was installed in 1916 and is one of the two major distribution lines flowing from the water treatment plant. As a major distribution line, impacts may be felt by consumers of Troy water beyond Lansingburgh, according to a news release.

The Department of Public Utilities, Department of Public Works, Engineering and other city departments responded. The city says it expects this project to take several days to fix.

As crews work to restore service, residents may experience service interruptions, including sputtering water, loss of water, loss of water pressure, discolored water, or more.

Neighbors should anticipate road closures and the potential for basement flooding.

People are reminded never to drive through a flooded roadway.
