Important information regarding ELAP certification for WET testing

Starting January 1, 2023, ELAP certification will be required for all labs performing acute and chronic WET testing. NYSDEC and NYSDOH have granted a one year grace period for labs to become certified for these tests. It is IMPORTANT that you get written confirmation that the lab you have chosen is either already ELAP certified for WET testing or has started the certification process. If you use a lab that does not meet that criteria, the test results will not be accepted and you will be in violation of you SPDES permit. Below is a listing of labs that say they are either WET test certified or in the process of becoming certified for WET testing. Remember, just because the lab you are using for BOD, TSS, etc. is ELAP certified, that doesn't mean it is ELAP certified to perform WET testing. GET ELAP VERIFICATION  IN WRITTING FIRST before contracting with a lab. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact NYRWA.

Listed in the attachment in alphabetical order are independent laboratories that claim to be capable of performing acute and chronic whole effluent toxicity tests based on methods described by the EPA. The following list is not an endorsement by NYSDEC.

The listed laboratories have not been visited, inspected or certified by NYSDEC. This list does not preclude the use of other laboratories, as long as the required methods are followed.
