Governor Cuomo announced the availability of grants for Round 11 of the Water Quality Improvement Project (WQIP) program. Funding is available for municipalities, soil and water conservation districts and non-profit organizations. The WQIP program is a competitive, reimbursement grant program funded primarily by the Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) and NY Works II for projects that reduce polluted runoff, improve water quality and restore habitat in New York’s waterbodies.

The extreme flooding that hit Lake Champlain twice in 2011, causing millions of dollars in damage in New York, Vermont and Quebec, will become more likely due to ongoing climate change and work must be done now to prepare, a report issued by the Vermont-based Lake Champlain Basin Program says.

Exclusion of Indebtedness Contracted for Sewage Facilities
Ballot propositions are too often overlooked by voters on Election Day. We urge voters to pay close attention to this proposition, and to vote yes on its adoption.
This measure would extend a provision of law which has been in effect since 1962, and renewed every ten years since, to exclude indebtedness for sewage facilities from their constitutional debt limits.
